Dallas street placement: the barricade permit
There is no "dumpster permit" in Dallas. Public Works' Right-of-Way Management regulates closing part of the public right-of-way, so a roll-off sitting in a traffic lane, on a sidewalk or in an alley needs a Traffic Control Permit. One parked in a driveway needs nothing.
Fee schedule
- Application: $34 (cut from $40)
- Minimum charge per permit: $200
- Daily rate, sidewalk or one lane: 1.2¢ per square foot for days 1–60; 2.4¢ for days 61–120; 4.8¢ for days 121–180; 9.6¢ after day 180
- Working without a permit: twice the daily fee, 2-day minimum
Doing the math for a home project
Our calculation: a common 22 × 8 ft roll-off covers 176 square feet. At 1.2¢ that is about $2.11 a day during the first 60 days, nowhere near the $200 minimum. Unless the container stays put for roughly 11 weeks or more, the bill is simply $200 plus the $34 application, so $234.
